As Western music grows into the 21st Century, its artists face the task of honoring and upholding tradition, while at the same time nurturing innovation. California is home to the remarkable Western Swing band LOST WEEKEND, which has shouldered the tradition of real Western Swing since 1984, and proved itself to be one of contemporary Western music's most enduring and creative bands.
With an all star cast of musicians and singers, and led by guitarist & vocalist Don Burnham, LOST WEEKEND is hard on the heels of the debut of the band's new CD, Harbor Lights and Cowboy Blues, on Redoubtable Records. The new album features fifteen Western Swing classics - staples and favorites in the band's repertoire for nearly two decades. The tracks show off the masterful twin fiddling, twin guitars, horns, arrangements, vocals, and harmony singing for which LOST WEEKEND is known.
In 1998, Don Burnham produced an album of all•original Western Swing music for the SONOTON music library - SONOTON SCE 012, Swingin' Out West - which features twelve original LOST WEEKEND tracks. These Western songs and tunes are being licensed worldwide for use in commercials, television and radio production, and in motion pictures.
Western Swing fans are as eclectic as the music itself. LOST WEEKEND performs at special events, concerts, dances, theatres, resorts, National and State Parks, hotels and clubs, throughout California and the West. The band's classic Western music has made it a favorite at traditional Western events: trail rides, ranch dances, rodeos, mounted patrol gatherings, and hayrides. In addition, the band's wide appeal has propelled LOST WEEKEND as a headliner at the West's major music and dance festivals, including the Strawberry Music Festival, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the California Cowboy Gathering, San Francisco New Year's Eve, CountryFests at Shoreline Amphitheater, San Francisco's Black and White Ball, and many others.
