The Lighthouse Singers community gospel choir sends a beacon of song from Marin County, California, across the -world proclaiming the good news of salvation through Christ Jesus. Their message dissolves cultural and racial barriers to reach the fellowship of humankind with the powerful melodies, rich harmonies, and driving rhythms of gospel music. Under the direction of the renowned Helen J.H. Stephens, the Lighthouse Singers are celebrating the release of their second recording. Lighthouse Singers Sings the Music Of Steven Roberta, on Little Willow Records.
The Lighthouse Singers are members of the Northern California chapter of the Gospel Workshop of America, founded by the late Reverend James Cleveland. Along with 20,000 delegates, The Lighthouse Singers participate at the GMWA annual convention which is hosted each year by a major city. At the convention they attend classes and seminars in gospel music, perform at the nightly musicals, and join the convention mass choir of 2,000 voices. The highlight of the convention is the live recording of the mass choir in concert performing new, original gospel compositions.
As part of their outreach in the San Francisco Bay Area, The Lighthouse Singers have held six local gospel music workshops since 1988. Led by Helen Stephens, and featuring special guest director Steven Roberts, each of these workshops has taught the participants about gospel music and how to sing gospel music. At the conclusion of the weeklong event, the workshop choir of 200 voices, along with the youth choir and children's choir, perform in concert. The Lighthouse Singers are honored and blessed to serve the Lord and humanity as they continue in their ministry of the gospel.
The Lighthouse Singers of Marin is supported by pledges from its membership and from contributions generated by churches, individuals and businesses. The Choir's services are available to the community at large.
