It was on the streets of San Francisco in March of 1990 that the president of Angel/EMI Records discovered the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, leading to the release of their highly acclaimed recording, ?Tails of the City?. The San Francisco Saxophone Quartet has since become much more than a Bay Area phenomenon ? completing concert tours of the US and Japan; performing on nationally syndicated radio shows ?West Coast Weekend?, CalNet, and Minnesota Public Radio; and gaining airplay on classical radio stations coast to coast.
Unique among chamber groups for several reasons, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet plays from memory, specializes in transcriptions of familiar classical favorites from all eras and includes in their repertoire works for three instruments with either harpsichord or piano. Equally at home on the concert stage or the streets of their hometown, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet is no longer San Francisco?s best-kept secret, but rather a Bay Areo original enjoyed the world over.
