Steven Baldwin was born in San Lorenzo
(California) in 1969 into a musically inclined family. Steven
Baldwin had no idea that his life would so closely parallel the
life of Stevie Wonder.
At the age of 9 Steven was accepted
into the prestigious San Francisco Boys Chorus, he performed with the chorus
until the age of 12. During his years with the San Francisco Boys Chorus, Steven
had the opportunity to perform at major functions across the United States including
The White House Christmas special during President Carter’s Administration
in 1978.
At the age of 12 Steven Baldwin
was diagnosed with a rare eye disorder, Retinitis pigmentosa. At this time,
Steven was informed that he would
be blind by his mid-twenties. Although the physician’s diagnosis came
true, just as Stevie Wonder, Steven Baldwin
would not allow this to hold him back. Being born into a family with strong
Southern Baptist roots did not hurt at all, Steven’s
grandmother born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi was a popular gospel vocalist
in her own right. Traveling in the circle of gospel greats such as Mahalia Jackson,
David & Delores Winan, her musical influence was passed down to her daughter
and subsequently to her grandson, Steven Baldwin.
The vocal ability that was nurtured by his family since the age of 9 years
old brought itself to the forefront. Tapping into this talent and his other
senses, Steven Baldwin soon became
an accomplished vocalist and musician of his own. While in college, Steven majored
in vocal Arts and minored in Stage Craft, during this time he performed in several
University level musicals such as Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and
Fiddler on the Roof, to name a few.
Graduating from Cal Berkley in 1992 Steven Baldwin
set out to pursue his musical career. From 1992 to 1994
Steven worked as a session vocalist at the renowned Fantasy
Studios in Berkley, California. Shortly after this time Steven
found himself fronting a popular Hard Rock group from the San
Francisco Bay area by the name of Legion where he shared the stage with such
names as Gregg Allman, Peter Criss, Jefferson Starship and White Snake and many
more. During the late nineties Steven
found himself on the other side of the Pacific in Australia where he was a cast
member in the on stage musical Soul Train, which was a Tribute to 60’s
and 70’s R&B.
Upon his return to the States, not being able to stay away from the stage for
very long, Steven auditioned for
and got the position as lead vocalist in a Casino show band called “Memphis
Rising”. Memphis Rising was an R&B review celebrating the music of
Stacks Records, this show was quite successful performing in Las Vegas for several
years. This is where the Timeless Wonder
concept was born. Timeless Wonder
is a remarkable tribute that celebrates the career of one of America’s
musical icons, Stevie Wonder.
The Timeless Wonder show is guaranteed
to delight audiences of all ages and cultures. Steven
Baldwin’s portrayal of Stevie Wonder is nothing short
of remarkable! It is amazing to witness Steven
Baldwin as Stevie Wonder for you will surely get lost in the
resemblance. Will the real Stevie Wonder Please Stand Up.
