Strictly Tango consists of a core of musicians dedicated to preserving and creatively redefining the tango. Their masterful playing conjures a world of strong feelings: passion, rancor, ecstasy, violence, and transcendence. The music of Strictly Tango is born of the sophistication and local color of Buenos Aires, the Paris of the Americas, recalling its sultry climate, the hustle and bustle of Avenida Corrientes, the melancholy river, the smell of the harbor. In falling under the tango's spell, one can hear the Neapolitan songs, habaneras, and cuples that are its birthright, as well as the freer rhythms of jazz, insinuating their way into the melodies. One can imagine the complaint of the bandoneon solo rising above the smoke-filled cabaret as the dancers rise, two and two, to the irresistible music.
