The San Francisco Jitterbugs were
"born" in 1999. Based on the Hollywood Jitterbugs, the SF
Jitterbugs were a troupe of friends interested in spreading Lindy
Hop, Balboa and Collegiate Shag. The first members were Lisa Harper, Kory Heinzen,
Tanoa Stewart, Julia Clare, John Lee and Stephanie Page. Soon after, Justin Travis
and Ruth Daughters and in 2003 Randy Maestretti, Kara Britt and Bethany Certa
joined the troupe. Weekly lessons, workshops and performances were held in the
SF Bay Area. Not to mention a bunch of social rugcuttin'
Well known for their educational "dance through time" historical demonstration,
the SF Jitterbugs have been seen
in motion pictures, T.V. shows, magazine covers, fairs, festivals and events all
over the bay area and beyond.
Now in 2007, The SF Jitterbugs represent
a wide spectrum of lady and fella bugs in the SF Bay Area. The SF
Jitterbugs span from performers, reet dressers, live music supporters,
balboa fanatics, dixiefried dudes, competitors, music enthusiasts, vintage vixens,
dance instructors, good friends, A-1 cats, cute kittens, sharp noodles, sassy
shaggers to strictly social dancers.
A note goes out to Michael Marangio, Persephone, Meredith Leong, Tj Carskadon,
Lisa Chan, Michelle Currie, Malena Slettom, Marc Bernasconi, Lynn Maes Ridder,
Emma Mansfield, Chris Farrell, Alex Nah, Joanie Loh, Darrell Takara and Tari Fullerton,
Lalo Montenegro and Roxane McDonald whom has cut a rug as an SF
Jitterbug on many occasions.
